Dear Colleague,
We cordially invite you to the GOES symposium at the Empa in Switzerland on the π 5th of February 2026. This symposium is for you if you:
- are a researcher, stakeholder, or practitioner in shallow geothermal energyβ¨οΈ
- want to learn novel methods to accelerate the design and integration of geothermal energy and Underground Thermal Energy Storage (UTES) π§©
- are an energy system modeler interested in new methods to facilitate system integration of geothermal resources
- want to engage with the international experts of the GOES consortiumπ€
The Geothermal-based Optimized Energy Systems (GOES) project is a transnational collaboration between eight research partners from Switzerland, Denmark, USA, Germany and Austria. At the symposium at Empa, we will:
- Introducing you to the Platform-based Design (PBD) approach for energy systems
- Showcase the PBD approach at hand of the Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) system of the Bispebjerg hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark
- Introduce you to novel methods and findings from the pilot site investigations of the HT-BTES system at the Empa Campus in Switzerland and the UC Berkeley Campus with its BTES system in the US.
(it takes 2 min)
We are looking forward to having you at the GOES Symposium at Empa!
The GOES project has been funded by the European GEOTHERMICA Era-Net and Joint Programming Platform ERA-Net Smart Energy Systems (JPP SES) in the call "Accelerating the Heating and Cooling Transitionβ. The project started in 2023 and will run until August 2026.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
