Continuing collaboration with HEIG-VD/IGT

HEIG-VD contributes toward WP04 by providing practical process data and advising the way industrial site and processes should be documented.

HEIG-VD / Institute of Thermal Engineering has extensive knowledge of Pinch Analysis methods and tools, and achieved numerous energy audits and pinch analysis in the food and beverage, as well as biotech and personal care, industry sectors. Further, the participation to IEA SHC Annex 49 provided insight in the integration solar process heat.

DeCarbCH Work Package 4 is a good opportunity to extend an over 10-years long close collaboration with HSLU. The contributions of HEIG-VD towards Work Package 4 are providing practical process data and advising the way industrial site and processes should be documented in a structured manner.

In Task 4.1, methods and tools for establishing top-down/bottom-up energy balance and comparison shall also be proposed.

In Task 4.2, HEIG-VD / IGT aims to set up a method to model industrial plant using minimal data to get meaningful energy demand profiles. A survey in targeted industry sectors and a sensitivity analysis shall validate the approach and the relevance and representativeness of the energy demand profiles obtained.

For Tasks 4.3 and 4.5, HEIG-VD / IGT shall act in particular as a critical “peer-reviewer” of the energy profiles and their aggregation into sectorial demand profiles to ensure the practical relevance of the profiles and of the identified opportunities for integrating renewables.
