Participation in Innosuisse Flagship Project “RENOWAVE”

RENOWAVE (Massive Decarbonization of the Swiss Building Stock) develops and implements energy retrofit solutions at the building and district level

The two research partners from ZHAW, the Institute for Sustainable Development (INE) and the Center for Public Commercial Law (ZOW), will be part of a new, multi-disciplinary applied research project that presents interesting synergies with DeCarbCH.

The project, titled “RENOWAVE - Massive Decarbonization of the Swiss building stock” (led by I. Bosshard/OST and P. Hollmuller/UNIGE), aims at developing and implementing solutions for energy retrofit at the scale of buildings and districts.

The diverse list of implementation partners includes:

  • several municipal,
  • cantonal administrations,
  • utilities,
  • companies from the construction sector,
  • technology providers,
  • software developers,
  • financial institutions,
  • building owners, and
  • consultancies.

The project covers the development of systemic solutions, as well as the elaboration of holistic business strategies for the planning and implementation of energy retrofits under current policy and regulatory conditions.

Thematically, this project complements the thermal grid focus of DeCarbCH, as it focuses on two adjacent topics:

  • reducing building energy demand, and
  • accelerating the diffusion of decentral solutions for clean heating.

Case studies and pilots in several Swiss cities will give valuable insights on customer decisions and actor collaborations.
