The team of WP07 developed a specific checklist and visited several substations that significantly impacted the district heating network (DHN) return temperatures.
A substation feeds a pre-existing sub-DHN connected to several buildings, which means that additional heat exchangers operate in series. This is a typical situation where the CAD-SIG DHN has replaced fossil boilers delivering heat to several buildings through a small private network.
However, the visit also revealed other potential problems, such as fixed flow rate pumps, partially opened bypass, and domestic hot water storage tanks with production by internal heat exchangers of unknown characteristics. These different in situ observations affirm that this is indeed a priority substation, however challenging to optimize.
